Greatcef Cv 325Mg 10Tablet contains following Salts:-
Cefpodoxime - Drug Information
Typical usage: :URTI including pharyngitis and tonsilitis. Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis: Acute community acquired pneumonia: Acute uncomplicated gonorrhoea. Uncomplicated urinary tract infection. Skin infections.
Probable Side Effects: :Hemolytic anemia, eosinophilia, lymphocytosis, bone marrow depression, anaphylactic shock, pseudomembranous colitis, intravascular coagulation, dizziness, fatigue, vomiting, anorexia, diarrhea, dyspnea, chills, urticaria.
Drug Interaction: Cefpodoxime is known to interact with other drugs like aluminium hydroxide and oxide, probenecid, propantheline (Br), sodium bicarbonate. These interactions are sometimes beneficial and sometimes may pose threats to life. Always consult your physician for the change of dose regimen or an alternative drug of choice that may strictly be required.
Mechanism of Action: The bactericidal activity of cefpodoxime results from its inhibition of cell wall synthesis. The active metabolite of cefpodoxime binds preferentially to penicillin binding protein 3, which inhibits production of peptidoglycan, the primary constituent of bacterial cell walls.
Pregnancy Impact: Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women.
Impact During Lactation: There are no controlled studies in breastfeeding women, however the risk of untoward effects to a breastfed infant is possible; or, controlled studies show only minimal non-threatening adverse effects. Drugs should be given only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the infant.
Potassium Clavulanate - Drug Information
Typical usage: :Bacterial infections, Myeloablative therapy followed by bone marrow transplantation, Respiratory tract infections, Urinary tract infection.
Probable Side Effects: :Diarrhea, Fever, Maculopapular rash, Urticaria, Increase in serum transaminase.
Drug Interaction: Allopurinol may reduce renal tubular secretion of amoxicillin thus increasing the serum levels of amoxicillin. Concurrent use may reduce the efficacy of oral contraceptives.
Mechanism of Action: Clavulanic acid competitively and irreversibly inhibits a wide variety of beta-lactamases, commonly found in microorganisms resistant to penicillins and cephalosporins. Binding and irreversibly inhibiting the beta-lactamase results in a restauration of the antimicrobial activity of beta-lactam antibiotics against lactamase-secreting-resistant bacteria. By inactivating beta-lactamase (the bacterial resistance protein), the accompanying penicillin/cephalosporin drugs may be made more potent as well.
Pregnancy Impact: Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.
Impact During Lactation: Studies in breastfeeding mothers have demonstrated that there is significant and documented risk to the infant based on human experience, or it is a medication that has a high risk of causing significant damage to an infant. The risk of using the drug in breastfeeding women clearly outweighs any possible benefit from breastfeeding. The drug is contraindicated in women who are breastfeeding an infant.
