Polyvinyl Alcohol - Drug Information
Typical usage: :Dry eye syndrome, ocular lubrication.

Mechanism of Action: Polyvinyl alcohol, a nonionic surfactant, is used as a stabilising agent, lubricant and as an agent to increase viscosity in pharmaceutical manufacturing. In eye preparations, polyvinyl alcohol is used to increase the viscosity and thereby prolonging contact time of the active ingredient with the eye. It is often found in artificial tears preparations for dry eye and in contact lens solutions.

Povidone Iodine - Drug Information
Typical usage: :Vaginal candidiasis. Treatment and prevention of wound infection. Oral hygiene. Oral candidiasis.
Probable Side Effects: :Hypersensitivity reactions, renal impairment, hyperthyroidism, hypernatremia, metabolic acidosis, rashes, pruritus, skin irritation, local edema, mucous membrane irritation.
Drug Interaction: Povidone-Iodine is known to interact with other drugs like chlorhexidine, silver sulphadiazine. Always consult your physician for the change of dose regimen or an alternative drug of choice that may strictly be required.
Mechanism of Action: Povidone-iodine is an iodophore with a powerful broad-spectrum germicidal activity against a wide range of bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa and spores. Povidone-iodine acts by iodinating and oxidizing microbial protoplasm.
Pregnancy Impact: There is positive evidence of human fetal risk based on adverse reaction data from investigational or marketing experience or studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.
Impact During Lactation: There is positive evidence of risk to a breastfed infant or to breastmilk production, but the benefits of use in breastfeeding mothers may be acceptable despite the risk to the infant (e.g. if the drug is needed in a life-threatening situation or for a serious disease for which safer drugs cannot be used or are ineffective).
