Cyanocobalamin - Drug Information
Typical usage: :Addisonian pernicious anaemia, Congenital cobalamine malabsorption, Congenital intrinsic factor deficiency, Homocystenemia, Ileal resection, Methylmalonylacidurias, Nutrition deficiency, Post gastrectomy vit B-12 deficiency, Transcobalamin II deficiency, and can also be given in adjunctive therapy as an alternative drug of choice in Vitamin-B12 defeciency of dietary origin.
Probable Side Effects: :Hypersensitivity reactions, Shivering, Dyspnea, Persistant urticaria, Bronchospasm.
Drug Interaction: Cyanocobalamin is known to interact with other drugs like Alcohol, Chloramphenicol, Cholestyramine, Colchicine, Colchicine, Epoetin, Glucose, Neomycin, Neomycin, Omeprazole.
Mechanism of Action: Vitamin B12 is used in the body in two forms: Methylcobalamin and 5-deoxyadenosyl cobalamin. The enzyme methionine synthase needs methylcobalamin as a cofactor. This enzyme is involved in the conversion of the amino acid homocysteine into methionine. Methionine in turn is required for DNA methylation. 5-Deoxyadenosyl cobalamin is a cofactor needed by the enzyme that converts L-methylmalonyl-CoA to succinyl-CoA. This conversion is an important step in the extraction of energy from proteins and fats. Furthermore, succinyl CoA is necessary for the production of hemoglobin, the substances that carries oxygen in red blood cells.

Niacinamide - Drug Information
Typical usage: :Hartnup disease, inflammatory skin disease, vitamin deficiency.
Probable Side Effects: :Hepatotoxicity, cholestasis, portal fibrosis, headache, fatigue, nausea, heart burn, sore throat, dry hair, tautness of the face, inability of eye focusing.
Drug Interaction: Niacinamide is known to interact with other drugs like carbamazepine, primidone. Always consult your physician for the change of dose regimen or an alternative drug of choice that may strictly be required.
Mechanism of Action: Nutritional supplement: Niacinamide, is a component of two coenzymes, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADP), which are necessary for tissue respiration, glycogenolysis and lipid, amino acid, protein, and purine metabolism. Antihyperlipidemic: Niacinamide lowers serum cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations by inhibiting the synthesis of very low density lipoproteins (VLDL), which are precursors to the formation of low-density lipoproteins, the principal carrier of blood cholesterol.
Pregnancy Impact: Adequate and well-controlled studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in the first trimester of pregnancy (and there is no evidence of risk in later trimesters).
Impact During Lactation: There are no controlled studies in breastfeeding women, however the risk of untoward effects to a breastfed infant is possible; or, controlled studies show only minimal non-threatening adverse effects. Drugs should be given only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the infant.
Pyridoxine - Drug Information
Typical usage: :Anaemia, Deficiency states, Idiopathic sideroblastic anaemia, Isoniazid neuropathy, Oedema and ascites in cirrhosis of the liver, Premenstrual syndrome, Schizophrenia and other psychoses, Vitamin deficiency.
Probable Side Effects: :Dizziness, Drowsiness, Blurred vision, Pain, Burning.

Mechanism of Action: Vitamin B6 is the collective term for a group of three related compounds, pyridoxine (PN), pyridoxal (PL) and pyridoxamine (PM), and their phosphorylated derivatives, pyridoxine 5'-phosphate (PNP), pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (PLP) and pyridoxamine 5'-phosphate (PMP). Although all six of these compounds should technically be referred to as vitamin B6, the term vitamin B6 is commonly used interchangeably with just one of them, pyridoxine. Vitamin B6, principally in its biologically active coenzyme form pyridoxal 5'-phosphate, is involved in a wide range of biochemical reactions, including the metabolism of amino acids and glycogen, the synthesis of nucleic acids, hemogloblin, sphingomyelin and other sphingolipids, and the synthesis of the neurotransmitters serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA).
Pregnancy Impact: Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women.
Impact During Lactation: Drug which has been studied in a limited number of breastfeeding women without an increase in adverse effects in the infant; And/or, the evidence of a demonstrated risk which is likely to follow use of this medication in a breastfeeding woman is remote.
