Magaldrate - Drug Information
Typical usage: :Acid Peptic disorders. Reflux oesophagitis.
Probable Side Effects: :Nausea, vomiting, rashes, muscular weakness, hives, diarrhea, constipation, intestinal pain.
Drug Interaction: Megaldrate is known to interact with other drugs like tetracycline, iron salts, chlorpromazine, levodopa, isoniazid, digoxin, H2-antagonists, indomethacin, nitrofurantoin, and dicumarol. Always consult your physician for the change of dose regimen or an alternative drug of choice that may strictly be required.
Mechanism of Action: Magaldrate is a hydroxymagnesium aluminate complex that is rapidly converted in gastric acid to magnesium and aluminium hydroxide, which is poorly absorbed and provides a sustained antacid effect with balanced efects on intestinal motility, increases lower esophageal sphincter tone and inhibits smooth muscle contraction and gastric emptying.
Pregnancy Impact: Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.
Impact During Lactation: There are no controlled studies in breastfeeding women, however the risk of untoward effects to a breastfed infant is possible; or, controlled studies show only minimal non-threatening adverse effects. Drugs should be given only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the infant.
Simethicone - Drug Information
Typical usage: :Esophagitis, flatulence, gastric bloating, gastrocardiac syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome, itchy dermatitis, meteorism, oesophagitis, peptic ulcer, postoperative gas pains.
Probable Side Effects: :Rashes, hives, diarrhea, constipation, itching, burning, heart burn, bloating, stinging.
Drug Interaction: Simethicone is known to interact with other drugs like alginic acid, aluminium hydroxide and oxide, strontium-89 chloride. Always consult your physician for the change of dose regimen or an alternative drug of choice that may strictly be required.
Mechanism of Action: Simethicone releives acidity by lowering the surface tension of gas bubbles.
