Oxetacaine - Drug Information
Typical usage: :Symptomatic relief of gastro-oesophageal reflux, pain associated with haemorrhoids.
Probable Side Effects: :Hypersensitivity, anorexia, nausea, dryness of mouth, constipation or, rarely, to diarrhea, headaches, drowsiness, dizziness or weakness.
Drug Interaction: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription medication you may use. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
Mechanism of Action: Oxetacaine is a local anesthetic for the gastrointestinal mucosa that maintains its activity even in a strongly acidic environment. Oxetacaine inhibits gastrin release and secondarily reduces gastric juice secretion. Thus, oxetacaine provides relief of symptoms, eg epigastric pain, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, eructation, abdominal distention, epigastric discomfort and unnecessary urge to defecate, which are associated with gastritis, digestive ulcers and similar gastrointestinal disorders.

Sucralfate - Drug Information
Typical usage: :Duodenal and gastric ulcer. Chronic gastritis.
Probable Side Effects: :Not reported so far.
Drug Interaction: When administered with other drugs sucralfate may bind to the drugs in the stomach and reduce absorption of the drugs. Sucralfate reduces the absorption of cimetidine (Tagamet), digoxin(Lanoxin), ketoconazole (Nizoral), levothyroxine (Synthroid), phenytoin(Dilantin), quinidine (Quinidex, Quinaglute), ranitidine (Zantac), tetracycline,theophylline (Theo-Dur, Uniphyl, others), and all of the fluoroquinolone antibiotics, including ciprofloxacin (Cipro), norfloxacin (Noroxin), ofloxacin(Floxin), and lomefloxacin (Maxaquin). All of these medications should be taken at least two hours prior to the sucralfate.
Mechanism of Action: Sucralfate protects GI lining against peptic acid, pepsin and bile salts by binding with positively-charged proteins in exudates forming a viscous paste-like adhesive substance thus forming a protective coating.
Pregnancy Impact: Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women.
Impact During Lactation: Drug which has been studied in a limited number of breastfeeding women without an increase in adverse effects in the infant; And/or, the evidence of a demonstrated risk which is likely to follow use of this medication in a breastfeeding woman is remote.
